Keith Hernandez had a question about the Grimace at Coors Field on Thursday.
During the Mets-Rockies game in Denver, with the Rockies in purple jerseys, SNY announcer Gary Cohen asked his partner Keith Hernandez about a costumed Grimace in the crowd, “Who is [he] rooting for?”
But it wasn’t the McDonald’s character and Mets good luck charm that the legendary Mets analyst was interested in.
“I want to know is that the Grimace’s date?” Hernandez asked of the woman sitting next to him in the crowd.
Cohen quickly jumped in to stop Hernandez from taking his leering any further.
“Every Grimace has to have a better half,” Cohen said.
It’s far from the first time Hernandez has made some awkward comments in the booth.
In June, Hernandez fawned over some Texas Rangers cheerleaders during a game in Arlington.
Last season, Hernandez made another seemingly crude comment when talking about hitting with Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk at the plate against then-Mets pitcher Justin Verlander.
“You want to always be erect when you make contact,” Hernandez said, followed by several seconds of silence before he chimed back in, adding, “Like a telephone pole!”
In 2017, Hernandez apparently thought the broadcast had gone to commercial when he chimed in with a not-safe-for-work comment about former Nationals starter Tanner Roark, who had given up six runs in 2 2/3 innings against the Marlins that day.
“Roark’s been getting his tits lit,” Hernandez said.
The Mets now take on the Mariners in Seattle this weekend, and who knows what will be said next on the broadcast.
