Ruth Langsford is said to be feeling ‘terribly guilty’ after Eamonn Holmes opened up about his health woes.
In his first public appearance since their split, the GB News presenter, 64, claimed he was on ‘borrowed time’ and shared: ‘I’m not OK. This is not a good time at all.’
He also admitted that he hopes he can still be friends with Loose Women presenter Ruth, after they announced they were divorcing after 14 years of marriage.
It’s now been said Ruth is dealing with ‘agonising guilt’ after his health struggles.
‘Even though she has every right to live her life and do what is right for her – she’s convinced the public will see her as abandoning Eamonn in his time of need as he struggles with his health,’ an insider reportedly told Bella magazine, as reported by The Express.
This comes after Eamonn’s appearance at the Tric Awards on Tuesday afternoon where he admitted that his health has been suffering and he almost didn’t attend the awards because of his considerable back pain.
He revealed that he was on ‘borrowed time’ and required a high-tech wheelchair and walker that helped him to attend the ceremony.
‘I wasn’t going to come, but I’ve got this new chair with all these gadgets,’ he told The Mirror.
‘I had an operation a year and a half ago, and two things went wrong so I have two things in my back I don’t want. So I’ll happily accept this.’
Eamonn has been dealing with ongoing health issues and was recently pictured using a walking frame and crutches in London.
His chronic pain started after he slipped three discs in 2021 and lost ‘full mobility’.
Eamonn then underwent spinal surgery the following year, which left him off air for almost four months as he recovered.
At the event, Eamonn also spoke about the recent news that he and his wife would be divorcing, admitting he hoped they could be ‘friends’.
‘I’m not OK. This is not a good time at all,’ he admitted. ‘It’s too early to say but I hope we can still be friends.’
Earlier this week, the former This Morning presenter said he had endured a ‘bad couple of years’ weeks after it was announced TV’s golden couple were divorcing after 14 years of marriage.
The 64-year-old made the comment on today’s GB News after his co-host and friend Isabel Webster urged viewers to vote for him as Best Presenter at the Tric Awards.
Sorry, this video isn’t available any more.
Speaking about his nomination, Isabel said: ‘I would say we’ve got a good chance: we’ve got a strong and loyal audience and everyone knows we are beating all the other breakfast shows at the moment in our category.’
Eamonn added: ‘I’ve had such a bad couple of years, anything would be good, so thank you if you do vote.’
Just days before their split, Ruth spoke of the ‘testing’ time in their family amid his health struggles.
She told Woman’s Weekly: ‘I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve. We live in hope.
‘He does the physio, but there might have to be some acceptance that this might never be 100% right.
‘With any care situation – and there are millions of carers in this country – it isn’t always easy. It’s testing but we manage as a family.’
Since splitting from Ruth, 64, Eamonn has reportedly grown close to new female friend Katie Alexander, a divorced mother-of-three who works as a relationship counsellor.
Sources close to Katie claim she’s fallen ‘in love’ with Eamonn after enjoying a ‘string of outings’ with the TV star. It’s said she’s ‘in it for the long haul.’
Ruth, meanwhile, has barely addressed their break-up but appeared not to have a care in the world over Eamonn’s new pal as she cooked up a storm for a girls’ night in at the weekend.
Earlier this month, it was claimed that Eamonn had been showering a close friend – who works as a relationship counsellor and who he’s known for several years – with gifts, leaving Ruth ‘angry’.
It was later said that Ruth was left extremely upset by the discovery of messages sent between her spouse and another woman on his laptop.
‘Ruth was completely taken by surprise when she saw the messages,’ a source told The Sun.
‘She had no idea what had been going on between them. She was devastated. Not only was she very upset but she was also angry.’
The gifts reportedly included tickets to a Beyoncé concert, a visit to Center Parcs and tickets to watch Manchester United at Old Trafford.
At the time, Katie was not said to be a reason for the marriage breakdown.
Eamonn previously addressed his split from Ruth when he returned to GB News for the first time since their joint statement.
‘Just before we move on I would like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation,’ he said last month.
‘Your support for both of us is very much appreciated.’
