When your work wife is your actual wife, it makes splitting up a whole lot more complicated. If any couple knows this, it’s Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford,
who announced last month that they were getting divorced after 14 years of marriage. But while the news continues to shock the showbiz world,
Ruth, 64, seemed to be dealt a further blow last week when it was reported Eamonn, also 64, had been spending time with another woman.
The former couple were a staple on daytime TV since the noughties, co-presenting This Morning every Friday from 2006 to 2021,
and hosting shows like ITV’s Gift Wrapped in 2014 and Channel 5’s How The Other Half Lives in 2015.
Following the announcement, Ruth took an “extended break” from Loose Women while she comes to terms with the split – despite her reportedly being the one to pull the plug on the marriage.
Eamonn, on the other hand, has reportedly been spending time with a “forty-something blonde divorcée” much to Ruth’s dismay.
After the Northern Irish presenter returned to work on GB News in the wake of the split, he thanked viewers for their support. Not much is known about his new companion, but it’s been reported she is a relationship counsellor who Eamonn grew close to over the past year after he and Ruth decided to separate, having first connected on Twitter several years ago.
It was also reported he had been “spoiling her with gifts”, which apparently came as a shock to Ruth. Eamonn even endorsed a charity linked to the anonymous woman’s work and helped to host a fundraising event for free. It was also claimed Eamonn took her to see Beyoncé and to watch his favourite football team Manchester United play.
While he and the mystery woman have been getting closer, Eamonn and Ruth – who started dating in 1996, got married in 2010, and have a 22-year-old son together – reportedly decided to separate after Eamonn’s battle with chronic back pain put a huge strain on their relationship and their work took them in separate directions.
Fortunately for Ruth, it doesn’t sound like she needs to worry about Eamonn and his new companion taking things to the next level, as a week after announcing their separation, he questioned the need to get married on air on GB News. Discussing 93-year-old Rupert Murdoch’s marriage to Elena Zhukova, 67, Eamonn said, “Why, at 93, would you bother?”
