Piers Morgan Reveals Startling Reason Simon Cowell Chose Him for America’s Got Talent: ‘You’re Just as Arrogant and Obnoxious as Me!’

Former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan previously served as a judge on Seasons 1-6 of America’s Got Talent.

Piers Morgan has revealed why Simon Cowell hired him as a judge for America’s Got Talent. The journalist spoke to Jordan B Peterson in an exclusive interview about his career.

The US version of Simon Cowell’s entertainment talent show saw Piers being a judge for six years and the opportunity came after he was fired from the Daily Mirror in 2004.

Speaking about when he got the call-up two years later, Piers said: “When Simon Cowell hired me […] he said you’re just as arrogant, obnoxius and judgemental as me.”

He said that Simon wanted someone who was “not afraid to give strong opinions” but also had a “journalistic eye for talent” who would put pop stars on the front page.

Piers added: “I’ve never been a juggler or a fire-eater, or any experience with piano-playing gigs, but what I was good at was identifying acts that a mass audience would like.”

Piers also appeared on Britain’s Got Talent and was famously on the judging panel that made Susan Boyle an international superstar.

The Scottish singer had never sung professionally outside of her town and after her audition, she became a world-wide sensation and as of 2021 she has sold 25 million records.

Following his stint on America’s Got Talent, Piers spent six years on ITV’s Good Morning Britain. He l eft in 2021 and was announced as a new presenter of the News Corp television channel TalkTV where he hosts his own weeknight programme.

Piers left his ITV role over refusing to back down after calling Meghan Markle a “liar” on Good Morning Britain following her interview with Oprah Winfrey.

He later quit his position as Life Stories host in the same year.

Watchdog regulator Ofcom received over 54,000 complaints from viewers, but Piers was cleared of doing any wrongdoing. Ofcom also received over 800 comments in support of him.
