Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” dominates the box office for the second week with $97 million, surpassing “The Passion of the Christ” to become the top-grossing R-rated film in history.

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman continue to wear the box office crown after their blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine landed in first place for the second week in a row — as expected.

The bromance between two of the  favorite characters earned $97 million over the weekend.

The film about Deadpool trying to save his universe by inviting a variant of Wolverine to help him has pulled in nearly $400 million domestically. 

Globally, the movie, which is co-written by Reynolds, director Shawn Levy and others, has earned $824 million.

The film has outgrossed both previous Deadpool movies and surpassed *The Passion of the Christ* ($371.1 million) as the highest-grossing R-rated film domestically, though this figure isn’t adjusted for inflation.

Deadpool & Wolverine blew past Twisters for the second week in a row.

The former box office champ starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones as tornado  collected a modest $22.6 million in second place.

The action flick has done solid business the world with global earning totaling more than $374.3 million, so far.   

Universal Studios, which released the film, is seeking to boost enthusiasm for the thriller with special 4DX showings in select cities across the US for one week, beginning August 30. 

Debuting in third place was M. Knight Shyamalan’s Trap.

The fright flick received mixed critical reviews and grossed $15.6 million domestically with another $4 million internationally for a first weekend global opening of $20 million. 

Despicable Me 4 landed in fourth place.

The animated adventure about an adorable crime family forced to go into hiding with their army of minions nabbed $11.25 million.  

 Inside Out 2 remains a strong contender eight weeks after its debut.

The animated adventure that tackles puberty and all the emotions that go with it earned a healthy $6.7 million and rounded out the top five at the US box office over the weekend. 

The movie, starring the voices of Amy Poehler and Maya Hawk is the top earning film of 2024, so far with more than $1.5 billion in ticket sales around the world. 

Harold and the Purple Crayon entered the box office race in sixth place. 

Zachary Levi stars at the title character in this family friendly film about as a book character who draws himself off the page and into the real world, only to discover he has a lot to learn about life. 

The film had a disappointing debut with only $6 million in ticket sales. 

The spooky Longlegs starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage dropped to seventh place with $4.1 million at the box office. 

The faith-based The Firing Squad debuted in eighth place. 

The film starring Oscar winner Cuba Gooding, Jr, former action star Kevin Sorbo and relative newcomer James Barrington as three Christian men facing execution after being imprisoned in a third world country. 

Through an advertising campaign that offered group tickets for church groups and encouraged wealthier moviegoers to ‘pay it forward’ for others, the film earned $1.6 million its first weekend in theaters. 

A Quiet Place: Day One starring Lupita Nyong’o dropped to ninth place, earning $1.4 million and Bad Boys: Ride or Die rounded out the top ten, pulling in $601,000 in ticket sales.
